Vitakruid Magnesium 150 bisglycinate 90 tablets - Mineral preparation
Magnesium bound to glycine
Magnesium bisglycinate is a compound between magnesium and two (bis) molecules of the amino acid glycine. The sweet-tasting substance is non-essential, meaning our body produces the amino acid itself in the liver. Nevertheless, stand-alone glycine supplements are frequently used. Surgery, diet, rapid growth or heavy exercise are factors that can make glycine supplementation a valuable addition to the diet.
Incidentally, you get a considerable amount of glycine when you use Magnesium Bisglycinate 150. In fact, a magnesium bisglycinate compound resulting in 150 mg of magnesium contains a whopping 600 mg of glycine!
Organic and chelated form
Magnesium malate, taurate, bisglycinate and citrate are organically bound forms of magnesium. Inorganic magnesium forms such as magnesium chloride, magnesium oxide and magnesium sulphate are less bioavailable, and therefore less well absorbed. For example, magnesium sulphate has only a bioavailability of 4%. This means that a dose of 200 mg of magnesium sulphate is effective for only a mere 8 mg.
Your daily diet generally contains inorganically bound magnesium. This is because these are the forms found in the soil and absorbed by the plants you eat every day. Examples include magnesium oxide and magnesium carbonate. So your body absorbs only a small part of the magnesium you get from regular food.
The best forms we know are magnesium chelates such as, magnesium taurate, magnesium malate and magnesium bisglycinate. The structure of an amino acid chelate is so strong that our gastric juice cannot split the form. This is due to the amino acids in the chelated form, which act as a protective layer for the magnesium, so to speak. The magnesium bisglycinate thus reaches our intestines as a complete element, where our body then absorbs the valuable mineral. Furthermore, the amino acid chelated nature ensures less gastrointestinal discomfort, compared to unchelated magnesium forms.
High absorbability elemental magnesium
A label should always state the elemental amount of a mineral. The molecular compound of magnesium bisglycinate contains 20% elemental magnesium. That may not seem like much. But an elemental amount of 150 mg, from 750 mg of magnesium bisglycinate, our bodies absorb much better than the same amount of elemental magnesium bound to, say, citrate, oxide or sulphate. And for magnesium, absorption of the mineral is a much more important criterion than quantity.
L-taurine provides synergistic effects
In addition, we have added l-taurine to Magnesium Bisglycinate. This amino acid-like substance found in significant amounts in meat, fish and shellfish. For this formula, synergistic motivation was to add l-taurine. Indeed, the intercellular substance enhances the absorption of magnesium bisglycinate, which is also active at the intercellular level.
