Berkey water filters filter out more than 99.9% of chlorine, viruses, bacteria, cysts, drug residues, parasites and dangerous chemical contaminants. Heavy metals are filtered out for 95% (up to 100% even with fluoride and arsenic filters). This preserves the essential minerals your body needs.

Black Berkey filter element is unique

This filter element uses the latest technological developments in water purification. Berkey water filters are therefore considered the best and most durable water filtration systems on the market and are the best-performing portable water filters.

All Berkey water filters come with 2 original Black Berkey filter elements as standard, except for the Go Berkey water filter set. You can use the elements order per 2but you can also order a separate element from us. This is very handy if, for instance, you want to replace the element in the Go Berkey or if only one filter element in another Berkey water filter needs to be replaced (e.g. in case of damage or loss).

The Black Berkey water filter element is one of the best gravity filter elements in the world. Berkey systems with these elements remove far more than standard water filters. A sturdy carbon block made from natural coconut shell, the micropores in the Black Berkey elements are so small that bacteria simply cannot pass through them. They are also so powerful that they can remove red dyes from water without removing the beneficial minerals your body needs.

The Black Berkey filter element also removes or reduces viruses, pathogenic cysts, parasites, harmful or unwanted chemicals such as herbicides and pesticides, VOCs, detergents, organic solvents, turbidity, trihalomethanes, sludge, sediment, heavy metals, fine flavours and odours, but they leave behind the healthy and good minerals your body needs. They are tested by an independent laboratory according to NSF/ANSI standards 42 and 53. See the laboratory report for more details.

Each Black Berkey element filters a maximum of 11,350 litres of water.
 

The box of the Black Berkey filter element contains the following parts:

● 1x Black Berkey filter element
● 1x Black rubber ring: for between the filter element and the stainless steel container
● 1x Wing nut: for tightening the filter element
● 1x Priming Button: brown rubber ring for priming the filter elements with the tap.
● 1x Berkey PrimeRite Universal Primer + PF-2 adapter: blue rubber attachment for the tap to prime the filter elements with an adapter to also prime the Fluoride & Arsenic filters to be able to prime
● 1x English-language manual
 
Preparing for use
The first step is priming the Black Berkey filter elements. It is important that this is done properly, otherwise purifying the water will take a very long time.
