You can easily assemble the Big Berkey in minutes without tools. The first step in preparing a Berkey water filter is priming Black Berkey filter elements. It is important that this is done properly, otherwise purifying the water will take a very long time. Works well. Only you have to be patient because on mine it took quite a long time for the water to come up

We have now been using the Big Berkey for the 6th consecutive day. And we are super happy with it!
Apart from the reassuring idea that the Berkey filters out any remaining harmful substances etc., the filtered water also tastes significantly better than when it comes straight from the tap!
It did involve intensive research via the internet over a few weeks for us before choosing the Berkey.
We ended up choosing between two very different filter systems that stood out for us: the AquaTru and the Berkey.
And the Berkey won out for us on several counts.
We took advantage of the offer including stand and sight glass tap. We would recommend such a sight-glass tap, by the way, when asked, to anyone, because otherwise you have no idea how much filtered water is left in the lower vessel.
We also immediately ordered a loose primer with it.
To get the Berkey ready for operation, I took my time. First, I carefully read through everything step by step and also watched several videos.
And then everything, including the fitting of the sight glass valve, worked perfectly in one go, with no leaks.
Our kitchen tap has a swivel nozzle at the end. And to avoid 'fiddling' with that, I immediately used the loose primer to prime the filters.
That actually, after watching a video about it, went much more smoothly than I expected: within 10 minutes, both filters were fully primed and thus ready to use.
The contact with Melanie and Tom is also very pleasant: a couple of times I sent a WhatsApp message with a question, and both times Tom called me within a few hours. Great and, above all, very personal customer service!
The card with a handwritten personal message on it, which was enclosed with the package, is also very sympathetic!
In short: we like the product enormously, and both the product and the website alternatievemiddelen.nl, as well as the personal approach by Melanie and Tom, we would confidently recommend to anyone.

I am super happy with my Big Berkey! I should have done this much earlier. It was a hefty investment, but in the long run I think it is more economical than buying Brita filters over and over again.
I had ordered the set with viewing glass and stand. The viewing glass really comes highly recommended!
The whole thing was very well packaged and nice that it came with a personalised card.
Installing it was very easy using the instruction videos. I only found priming with the rubber ring a tricky job (a lot of mess and it takes a lot of force). Afterwards, I saw that there was also a set of accessories for the fluoride filters (I hadn't bought any fluoride filters, so I had put that bag aside), but that included a blue rubber primer aid. With that, priming the black filters was a piece of cake! Might be handy to mention in the instruction videos 🙂 Other than that, only praise!

I don't normally write reviews easily but this certainly deserves the exception. Nice website with extensive information, everything you want to know can be found. I was on the waiting list and the email contact was fast and very friendly. Products were really incredibly well packaged, in my case 2 Berkeys. The set prices are a really good deal. Am incredibly happy with them. Water is visibly cleaner (from the tap!) so have full confidence in this product, also soft taste. Personalised card with the products, really a nice touch. Definitely going to order more and definitely recommend this webshop.
I am going to confess...I have fallen in love and addicted to my Big Berkey. Long searched and compared different systems. Berkey remained at the top. Then still making difficult choice in size....for our two-person household finally went for the Big Berkey. Bigger would also look out of place in our kitchen.
Here on alternatives, there was/is a nice offer for a set with coaster and sight glass (very handy for reading t level!).

After much deliberation, I decided to buy this water filter. I was already drinking a lot of bottled water, and converted, the investment will pay for itself within a year. Not only for my own health, but also for the environment. I was a regular customer at the bottle machine and later the bottle bank. So worth it, especially when you know that the filters last much longer than that. I really like the filtered water! Even better than all brands of bottled water. My friend said, after tasting it, 'I miss something'. Apparently, you get used to the taste of hard and contaminated water. Well, I don't miss it! About Melanie and Tom's service, only compliments. No question is too much. I had some trouble priming the filters, the culprit was my tap (and maybe my impatience). Still bought the primer and that did the trick. I do recommend buying that one as well. Melanie and Tom, thank you for everything!
