Why we use: Berkey water filter
As a family, we are always looking for the best products to make our green lifestyle support. Besides pure, unprocessed food, we find it drinking clean, pure water very important. However, despite increasingly sophisticated techniques at water treatment plants, it does not succeed in completely removing pollutants. At least not in a way that keeps our drinking water cheap. And when you then hear that our water is becoming increasingly polluted with medicine residues and pesticides or lead, we think it is worth filtering our water with a Berkey water filter.
The importance of good, clean water
Water stimulates metabolism, promotes blood flow to our organs and strengthens our immune system. A healthy water balance is essential for our functioning and health. Water ensures that mineral substances and trace elements reach every cell of our body and in addition, water has a inner cleansing function. Our bodies need water to get rid of toxins, which is why we want to drink our water as pure as possible so as not to burden our bodies unnecessarily. To that end, we came across the Berkey water filter, the most powerful gravity filter on the market. With this Berkey filter, we were able to optimise our drinking water by filtering out undesirables and retaining important minerals instead.
Our rationale
As a family, we try to drink enough water and therefore find the quality of our drinking water is important. We also want to take our own responsibility in this. After all, there are many hormone-disturbing and harmful substances in our environment that we cannot always avoid - such as in plastics, clothes and food - but in our drinking water at home, we can avoid them. We don't want to spend big bucks on bottled mineral water (which, incidentally, is also variable in quality) and which, moreover, is often packaged in plastic. This is why we chose to use a Berkey water filter, which removes pollutants perfectly. In addition, our experience is that it water tastes much softer and better.

Installation, priming and maintenance
The first step in preparation of a Berkey water filter is the priming of Black Berkey elements. It is important that this is done properly, otherwise purifying the water will take a very long time. For the cleaning our advice is to clean the enclosure once a month. The lower and upper chamber can simply be washed with soapy water and in warm water. The Black Berkey elements clean once every 6 months or when you experience a drastic reduction in filter speed and priming no longer achieves any gain in speed. The Black Berkey elements you just have to wash under running cold water with a scouring pad. You will then scour the pores open again and get rid of all the dirt. Once every 3 months, we recommend priming the filters again. Then the speed of filtering also rose again.
